Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris will be equipped with a fire protection system that will provide full protection, said Philippe Jost, head of the cathedral’s reconstruction.
According to him, after opening, the cathedral will be able to receive 14 million visitors a year, which is two million more than before the fire in 2019.
“All precautions have been taken to ensure full protection against fires. A smoke indicator system will be created at the spire and attic level to prevent any fire – the first of its kind installed in a cathedral in France,” Jost said at a meeting of the cultural affairs committee of the National Assembly of France.
Jost also answered a question from deputies who pointed out the environmentally harmful lead coating. According to him, a new experimental rainwater collection system has been developed, and a permanent, more adapted system will be introduced later.
